Elizabeth Lou Rogers, Merkel
Elizabeth Lou Rogers, 87, died Friday, June 25, 2010 in a local nursing center. Services will be 10:00 AM, Monday, June 28th at the Merkel Church of Christ with Larry Gill and Michael Bryan officiating. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery, directed by Starbuck Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 4:00 PM, Sunday, June 27th, at Starbuck Funeral Home.
Elizabeth was born February 2, 1923 in Fort Worth, Texas to James and Ruby (Dowdy) Cathcart. She married A.L. Rogers, September 13, 1941 in Taylor County. She was a member of the Merkel First Baptist Church and a lifetime member of the VFW auxiliary in Merkel. Elizabeth enjoyed being with people. Many enjoyed her company at the Senior Citizens Center or local coffee shop. Visiting and cutting up with friends was her passion. Elizabeth also enjoyed the presence of children. Having them in her home at any given time was not unusual. Music was also something she loved, Elvis being her favorite.
Survivors include her daughter, Judy Rogers of Merkel; son, Connie Lee Rogers and wife Shirley of Guthrie, Oklahoma; her cousin/sister, Willie Pearl Ross of Trent; brother-in-law, Benny Rogers of Merkel; five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Memorials may be made to the Merkel Museum, 1501 North 1st, Merkel, Tx. 79536.
