Silas Trueblood was born 27 Jun 1848 in St. Charles, Kane, Illinois, the oldest son of Jonathan and Catherine Elizabeth (Miller) Trueblood. Soon after his birth, the family moved to Delta County, Michigan, at times living on St. Martins Island. Just south of St. Martins Island is Door County's Washington Island. It was here that Silas married Emma Goodletson on 23 March 1870. He was listed on their marriage certificate as a painter, but most of the time supported his family by fishing. They lived on St. Martins Island soon after they were married, but were living in Little Harbor (Baileys Harbor, Door, Wisconsin by 1878, when Emma died shortly after the birth of twins, leaving Silas and four young children. Arrangements were made for relatives and friends to raise the children. Silas was listed on the 1880 census as a fisherman living with his brother George and wife Susan, and fishing partner in Baileys Harbor.

In 1882 Silas married Ella Hawthorne in Cook County, Illinois. They had one son, Robert Lawrence Trueblood, and lived in Escanaba, Delta, Michigan. Silas later worked as a cook on the seabarge "Waukon". He drowned when he accidentally walked off the dock in the dark while in port at Cedarville, Michigan.

Obituary from Door County Democrat, Oct. 9, 1909, p. 2:

FORMER DOOR CO. MAN DROWNS
Silas Trueblood is Drowned By Walking Off a Dock.

Silas Trueblood, a former resident of Door county, and well known in the village of Fish Creek and other northern towns, was accidentally drowned at Cedarville, Mich. recently. He was employed as cook on the steabarge Waukon, and it was while the craft was in port at Cedarville that the accident occurred. He left the boat to go up town, and it being dark, he walked off the dock. His cries for help were heard by members of the crew of the boat, but before they could locate him in the water he had drowned. The body was recovered in about twenty minutes.

Mr. Trueblood leaves a wife and son besides several brothers to mourn his death.
