Born in Texas to Jefferson David Hammer and Annie Elizabeth (Edwards) Hammer.
The 1900 Census lists him living at age 7 with his parents and 3 siblings in Clay Co. TX
In 1910 Census at age 17, living with parents and 7 siblings in McClain Co. OK.
Married Stella Mae Bebout Feb 26 1916 in McClain Co. Oklahoma
The 1930 Census lists him as 38 yrs, married to Stella, living on a rented farm with his wife, 7 children and father Jeff Hammer in Colbert Township, McClain Co. Oklahoma
In 1941, most of the family moved from OK to CA in a Model A Ford to Cherry Valley into a small house with acreage which they planted with what my dad described as looking like planting sticks which later were splice-grafted with plum and peach branches. It took years to receive the produce, of course. So they went to work for others.
Grandpa chewed tobacco and spit in a spittoon that was in the livingroom, which grandma warned us not to play around as it might knock over and it was VERY stinky!
