FLOYD J. BELDEN
BELOIT — The funeral for Floyd J. Belden, 80, Beloit, will be at 10:30 am Friday at the McDonald funeral home here, the Rev. Dan Reihing officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery, Beloit.
Mr. Belden died Monday at the Mitchell County hospital, Beloit.
He was born Nov. 10, 1897, at Scottsville.
He had farmed in the communities of Scottsville, Jamestown, Formoso and Jewell before moving to Beloit in 1946. On his Beloit farm, he raised and broke riding horses for the show ring. He was a member of the Scottsville Presbyterian Church and the Beloit Saddle Club.
Surviving are the widow, Bertha, of the home; a son, Owen, Knoxville, Tenn.; two daughters, Mrs. Charlene Schmidt, Glasco, and Mrs. Elizabeth Conner, McCracken; three sisters, Mrs. Daisy Wilson, Glasco; Mrs. Alice Green, Beloit, and Mrs. Pearl Lavey, Alamogordo, N. M.; 9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials to the Christian church building fund at Beloit. Friends may call at the funeral home.

Floyd James Belden, one of six children born to Julius Orlando and Sarah Moore Belden on November 10, 1897 at Scottsville, KS. Death came 11 days after his 80th birthday on November 21, 1977 at the Mitchell County Hospital, Beloit, KS.
Floyd attended Liberty, No. 86, rural school near Scottsville and later the Scottsville High School. He was united in marriage to Bertha May Milholland at the home of the bride, east of Scottsville on May 25, 1919. To this union three children were born, Owen, Charlene, and Elizabeth Ann.
They made their first home on a farm 6 miles east of Scottsville; and in 1921, moved to a farm near Lenora, KS. In 1926, they returned to Scottsville to help his parents on their farm. They lived south of town until 1941 when they moved 10 miles south of Jamestown and after living near Formoso, KS, and Jewell, KS, they moved to Beloit in 1946 to 301 North Chestnut, which is their home today.
Floyd was an excellent horseman with a natural ability to work with them. He was a good rider, knew how to set in the saddle and participated in many horse shows. He broke many a horse, for riding, for show, and for pulling wagons. With this interest in horses, Floyd was an active member in the Beloit Saddle Club.
He was also a member of the Scottsville Presbyterian Church. Last May, they were able to celebrate their 58th wedding anniversary.
He leaves to mourn his passing his wife Bertha of Beloit, KS; a son and his wife, Owen A. and Sara Belden of Knoxville, TN; two daughters and their husbands, Mrs. Charlene and Lorn Schmidt of Glasco, KS; and Mrs. Elizabeth Ann and Glenn Conner of McCracken, KS; three sisters, Mrs. Daisy Wilson of Glasco, KS; Mrs. Alice Green of Beloit, KS; and Mrs. Pearl Lavy of Alamogordo, NM. 9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Frame Belden; and a sister, Bessie Goble.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Friday November 25, 1977 at the McDonald Funeral Home, Beloit, KS, with the Reverend Dan F. Reihing, First Christian Church, Beloit, KS, officiating. Music was furnished by Mr. Tim Chapman, vocalist, and Mrs. Max Roberts, organist.
Casket bearers were Chris Belden, Dan Chapman, Mike Conner, Lorn Schmidt, Stan Schmidt, and Francis Tatro. Caring for the flowers were Mr. and Mrs. Dan Adkins and Mr. and Mrs. Darrel Lewis. Interment was in Elmwood Cemetery, Beloit, KS.
