PFC John Albert Middleton died at the Sullivan County Nursing Home in Unity, NH on December 2, 2002. He was born on March 20, 1915 in Bradford, England; the son of Albert Henry and Priscilla (Lambert) Middleton.

He immigrated to the U S in the mid 1920's. He was raised in Manchester, NH, graduating from Manchester Central High School in 1933. He served in the U S Army from November 12, 1942 to February 1, 1946 as an Army radio operator aboard a merchant vessel in the South Pacific. He had lived in Claremont, NH since 1954. In 1977, he retired as a supervisor from New England Telephone Co where he had worked for thirty years. He had previously worked at Amoskeag Mills in Manchester and Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co in Windsor, VT. He was a member of the Shriners, BPOE Elks Lodge No 879, the American Legion Post No 29, the Veterans of Foreign War Oliver Lacasse Post No 808, and Hiram Lodge No 9 F&AM where he was past master and served on every committee. He was past president of the Telephone Pioneers of America and a former deacon of the Union Episcopal Church. He was mayor of Claremont in 1991 and assistant mayor in 1987, 1990, 1993, and 1994. He was a member of the city council from 1986 to 1994 and served two terms in the New Hampshire legislature.

He married Marjorie Frances Crossett on May 29, 1942 in Hanover, NH.

He was predeceased by his stepfather John Letson and sister Verona Olson.

Survivors include his wife; four children Gregory C Middleton of Irving, TX, Pamela M Stillson of Claremont, Susan J Croney of Middleton, VT, and John G Middleton of Springfield, VT; six grandchildren; and two half brothers Edward Letson of Littleton, NH and Geoffrey Letson of Virginia.

Burial is in Union cemetery.
