Alfred S. Starnes was the husband of Cecilia Delia (Della) Bangs. They married on July 20, 1891 in Booneville, Logan County, Arkansas. They established their home in Bonanza, and later, Jenny Lind, Sebastian County, Arkansas. Three children were born from their marriage: Vera, Clyde V., and Floyd W. Starnes. He was the son of Ellen Ann Speer, originally from Kentucky/Tennessee, and William A. Starnes, originally from Meriwether County Georgia. He was a member of the Jenny Lind Masonic Lodge No. 503, a miner, and farmer.

Alfred Starnes and his wife, Cecilia Delia (Della) Starnes are buried at Douglass Cemetery, in Jenny Lind, Sebastian County, Arkansas. Common field rocks with no engraving mark their resting place.

Ancestral records trace Alfred's paternal lineage to England, with his first American Starnes living in South Carolina and later, Georgia. His maternal lineage traces to Ireland, and further back, to Scotland. The first American Speers of his line trace to Maryland. Alfred's father, William A. Starnes was a confederate soldier having enlisted in Company G of the 11th Texas Infantry (Robert's Regiment). His parents married in Smith County Texas and moved to Logan County, Arkansas where Alfred was born.
