__DEATH OF A PIONEER CITIZEN OF PAYSON__
Lafayette J. Rice Had Lived 62 Years in Locality in Which He Ended His Days.
Lafayette J. Rice, one of the oldest settlers hereabouts, died at his home near Payson Sunday afternoon about 6 o'clock, after an illness of short duration caused from a dropsical affection.
Mr. Rice had lived all of the 62 years of his life within a short distance of the place where he died and was well known and popular with all of the old timers in Quincy.
He is survived by his wife and one daughter, Mrs. Nellie Manuell, of Hull Station. Mr. Rice also leaves three brother and two sisters, the former being Andrew Rice, of Payson; J. W. Rice of Salina, Kansas, and Dr. S. F. [ed. S. T.] Rice, of this city, while the sisters are Mrs. [ed. Joseph A] Ellen McKenzie, of Payson, and Mrs. M. L. McKenzie of Quincy.
The funeral will take place this afternoon at 2 o'clock, from the family residence and will be in charge of the Masonic order, of which Mr. Rice had been a member for many years. Interment will be in Frank's cemetery, at Payson. Friends are invited to attend.
