Lula was born April 20, 1910 in Summerville, MO, a daughter of William Franklin "Frank" and Mary Malinda "Mollie" Thomas Hines. She received her schooling in Missouri and was married to Melbur Melvin Brandt March 30, 1935, in Mountain View, Mo. The couple moved to Wyoming in 1936 and after WWII she and her husband started their own business in 1946 known as Brandt and Wicklund Forest Products at Fox Park, Wyoming.
