Walter Scott Cheesman, born 27 JUN 1838,

Long Island, New York, son of

Joseph Badgley Cheesman and

Grace Rowling,

1m= Bessie Leyster (1846-1870), 20 OCT 1869.

2m= Alice Foster, O2 NOV 1885, Denver, Co.

Walter was a druggist, miner, entrepreneur,

banker, railroad and water tycoon, and was

among the leading personalities in

obtaining statehood for Colorado.

Cheesman Canyon, Cheesman Dam,

Cheesman Lake, and Cheesman Park

were all named to honor his memory.

The Governor's mansion in Denver

was to be his home, but he died

before the magnificient structure

was completed.
