CARPENTER RITES HELD YESTERDAY

Last rites for Mr. A. M. Carpenter, widely known resident and former farmer in this vicinity, who died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. B. H. Workman, Saturday morning were held yesterday afternoon at the Christian church in charge of Rev. B. A. Gann.
Music was furnished by a mixed quartette composed of Mrs. H. Hartman, Mrs. John Canutt, Mr. Emery Bushy and Mr. A. B. Cross. They were accompanied at the piano by Mrs. F. D. Chapman. Three numbers were sung.
Pall bearers were Mr. Geo. Orbin, Mr. John Arnold, Mr. George Arnold, Mr. Edgar Orin, Mr. John Carlisle and Mr. Bert Porter. Burial was made in the Fairview cemetery ,(Block 1, Lot 10) north of this city, in which community Mr. Carpenter resided for many years.
Mr. Carpenter had been troubled with his heart for some time and his health was not of the best, however, until a week ago he was enjoying his usual strength. The attack of pneumonia coupled with the heart trouble accounted for the death.
He was 75 years of age and had come to Perry and the state of Iowa from Illinois in 1870. Ten years later, in 1880, he purchased a farm five miles northeast of this city on which he resided until a few years ago when he retired. Since retiring his time has been occupied to a certain extent to his land holdings but he made his home in this city with his daughter Mrs. B. H. Workman.
Mr. Carpenter is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Ed Mulder and Mrs. B. H. Workman of this city; Mrs. H. E. Darling of Woodward and Mrs. Floyd Clark of California. Four sons also survive him; James and Richard of California and Daniel and John, the former on the home farm and the latter on a nearby farm. Mrs. Carpenter died twenty-four years ago.
Many friends and acquaintances attended the services and the esteem in which Mr. Carpenter was held was testified to amply by the many beautiful floral tokens.
