Mary Bayless was the daughter of Henry and Henrietta Smekens. She married Kenneth "Kay" Bayless on September 3, 1929. He preceded her in death.

Survivors include her daughters, Betty Day and Sue Nelson (husband: Philip), 8 grandchildren, Susan Day, Sally Day, Sarah (David) Seligman, Scott (Pandy) Day, Steve Day, Jenny (Will) Chamberlain, Andy (Allie) Nelson and Brad (Christa) Nelson; 8 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandsons.

She was also preceded in death by two brothers, two sisters, her son-in-law, Marvin Day and great-granddaughter, Jana Day Starr.
