Married Sarah Ann Johnson June 12, 1851 in Adams County Illinois, four children born. Last child born c1857 in Jasper County Iowa. Enlisted Davenport Iowa. The 13th Iowa was in the center of action April 6 & 7 1862 in the Hornets Nest. A. P. Easterday was killed in action at Shiloh (Pittsburg Landing) Tennessee April 6, 1862. Buried Unknown with 13th Iowa Infantry unit. One of 10 unknown of 23 in the 13th Iowa burials. Of 760 in the 13th Regiment at Shiloh 40 were killed or mortally wounded, 126 wounded, and 5 missing. Total of 6664 Iowans fought in eleven regiments at Shiloh. The most Iowans ever lost on any single day.
