Jora (Gevorg) Harutyunyan was an outstanding Armenian writer and playwright, winner of State Prize of the Republic of Armenia named after "Gabriel Sundukyan" and the prize Artavazd.
In 1962 he graduated from the Yerevan State Medical Institute. In 1964 he was appointed as the chief of the clinic of Armenian branch of the Literary Fund of the USSR, after which in 1 year was appointed as the director of the same Fund, and left the field of medicine forever. He held that position until 1995.
Jora Harutyunyan was also a member of the Committee of the Union of Writers of Armenia.

Jora Harutyunyan is the author of many comedies and plays which were staged in Armenia and abroad. Works of Jora Harutyunyan were translated into various languages. Filmography: 1955 - The Golden Steer, 1964 - Lipstick # 4, 1969 - Panos the loser, 1972 - Memorial, 1975 - The Bride from the North, 1980 - The Big Prize, 1983 - Fire, 1987 - Pharmacy at the crossroad.
Jora Arutyunyan is the author of many well-known plays, like "The patient № 199", "In the world of flowers", "Heart Disease", "Ghazar goes to war", "Happy People", "Crossroads", "Your last refuge", "It was a sunny June "," At our age" and many others. His plays were set in different countries of the former Soviet Union and Europe, such as the Southern Caucasus, Central Asia, Russia, Hungary, Bulgaria etc.
