Robert, who resided at 2302 Harrison Street, Wilmington, Delaware, served as a 1st Lieutenant with Company A, 504th Regiment Parachute Infantry, 82nd Airborne Division, U.S. Army during World War II.

He was "Killed In Action" at Nijmegen, Holland. His name is on a memorial on the north shore of the Waal River in Nijmegen along with the other soldier's killed there. He had served in the Army for two year and four months at the time of his death.

He was decorated with the "Silver Star" and a Purple Heart.
