Ross served as a Sergeant with Company K, 157th Infantry Regiment, 45th Infantry Division, U.S. Army during World War II.

He enlisted in the Army on October 18, 1943 in Camden, New Jersey. He was noted as being employed as a Driver and as Married.

He was "Killed In Action" at Obersteinbach during the Battle of the Bulge in north-eastern France during the War.

He had served with the Army for one year and one month at the time of his death.

He was originally interred in France in a United States Military Cemetery. In 1948 his widow requested that his remains be returned to the United States and be placed by his mother who is also interred at Silverbrook Cemetery, Wilmington, Delaware.

He was decorated with the Purple Heart.
