Marlene Ida Stavenger, daughter of Nick and Ida (Sleiter) Stavenger, was born on October 8, 1932 in Luverne, Minnesota. Marlene was united in marriage with James Cooksley on June 4, 1955 in Luverne, Minnesota. Together, they later moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota where she worked at Sears in the men's and boy's clothing departments.
Marlene was always rooting for the Minnesota Viking's, but after the game she would comment on how they could maybe win the next one instead. She also enjoyed history, word puzzles, and reading romance books. Marlene especially enjoyed spending time with her children and grand-children. At Christmas time Marlene made pinwheel cookies and mailed them to her children. Even though they were too much work for everyone else, Marlene was sure to make them every year because of her children's love of them. Marlene loved making chocolate chip cookies with her granddaughter Jennifer.
Grateful for having shared her life are her son, Brad Cooksley and his wife Cathy, Galveston, TX; three daughters, Holly Kuper and her husband Randy, Sioux Falls, SD, Kim Bretz and her husband Charlie, Nashville, TN, Karen Cooksley, Sioux Falls, SD; seven grandchildren, Joseph Cooksley and his wife, Renee, Lindstrom, MN, James Cooksley and his wife Lauren, Fort Worth, TX, Rochelle Flicek and her husband Nic, Sioux Falls, SD, Amy Zacharias and her husband Jarad, Hartford, SD, Tracy Kuper, Sioux Falls, SD, Jennifer Cooksley, Sioux Falls, SD, Jacob Bretz, Nashville, TN; and three great grandchildren, Zowie, Gabriel, and Mariana.
Marlene was preceded in death by her husband, James and her parents, Nick and Ida.
