Robert Wayne Voss passed away on April 3, in Mt. Vernon, Missouri, in the Missouri Veterans Home, where he had been a resident for the past several months. He was born to Vera and Arthur Voss in Davenport, Iowa on August 9, 1922, and lived in several Iowa cities during his youth. Robert traveled most of the Midwest during his career in the soft drink industry and retired from Liberty Glass Company out of Sapulpa, Okla. For a couple of weeks in the summer, when his employment took him out of the state, he sometimes was accompanied by one or two of his twin sons where they learned to meet people and get an education in the business world. He served proudly in World War II and a member of the Army Air Force where he flew in and maintained B-17 bombers at several Air Force bases. His fondness for aviation continued after his military service and one of his proudest moments was being named Honorary Crew Chief for the United States Air Force Thunderbirds in 1970 at Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas, Nev. His vast array of model aircraft is on display at Springfield Flying Service on East Division. He enjoyed golf and was a member of Hickory Hills Country Club and had a fondness for dogs. Robert is survived by an older brother, Burt Voss of Davenport, Iowa. Other survivors include, Marian, his wife of 67 years; and five children, Pam Trammell and husband James of Winston-Salem, N.C., Patti Barber of Shawnee, Kan., Nancy Voss of Springfield, Randy and Becky Voss of Ozark, Mo., Rob and his wife Angie of Ridgedale, Mo. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Dr. Shannon Mattern and husband Chris of Greensboro, N.C., Amy Boydston and husband Eric, Scott Barber and wife Marcia of Lenexa, Kan., Sondra Puorro and husband Tom of McKinney, Texas, Nici Flinn and husband Jared of Prairie Village, Kan., Joe Voss and wife Cheryl of St. Louis, Mo., Hannah Voss of Springfield; and eight great-grandchildren.
