William Joki Salo was killed in the Winter Quarters # 4 explosion and fire. He was a coal miner and this disaster killed he and 199 more individuals like him. This was the first coal mine explosion of the 1900s. Many more would follow. 15,000 coal miners have been killed in american coal mines. It was and is a hard life. Rest in peace.
