Max Axtman, 73, Esmond, died Thursday, Jan. 21, 1988, in Good Samaritan Hospital, Rugby, N.D.

Services will be at 10:30 Tuesday in St. Boniface Catholic Church, Esmond. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. today in Nelson Funeral Home, Esmond. There will be an 8 p.m. prayer service today at the church.

Max Axtman was born May 13, 1914, near Balta, N.D., the son of Martin and Walburga Axtman. He grew up and was educated in the Balta area and in 1936 joined the Civilian Conservation Corps in Dunseith, N.D. He lived in Washington state from 1937 to 1941, when he returned to North Dakota. On Oct. 28, 1942, he married Marion Lauinger in Esmond. They farmed in Esmond Township, Benson County, N.D., until 1974, when they moved to Esmond.

He was preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers.
