Mrs. Abbott suffered a stroke and had been ill since 1952. She made her home in Olney with a daughter, Mrs. V.V. Heard.
Mrs. Abbott was a member of the Baptist Church.
J.M. Abbott married Miss Sara F. Rouswell on 15 May 1884 at San Angelo, Tom Green County, Texas.
To this union, 13 children were born, one daughter preceded him in death.
Survived by five daughters - Mrs. V.V. Heard of Olney, Mrs. W.R. Gannon of Spur, Mrs. E.M. Thomas of Van Nuys, CA; Mrs. L.F. Simpson of Lubbock and Mrs. W.T. Davidson of Graham; four sons - Luther and Arthur of Olney; Oscar of Newcastle and Oliver of Archer City; three sisters; one brother; 65 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were grandsons.
