Bertha Boeck Yerkie was the daughter of Wilhelm and Louise Boeck.

Her siblings include:
-Wilhelm (sometimes seen as "William") Boeck (ca1866-unk)
-Augustus Gustave (1867-1935) m.1888 Julia Tobin (1859-1946)
-Hulda T. (1869-1931) m. Adam C. Bauernfeind (1861-1935)
-Julius Albert (ca1872-1951) m.1899 Minnie Augusta Evenberg (ca1887-1952)
-Herman August (1875-1948) m.1905 Marie A. Paeth (1892-1962) (sister to Martha Paeth, Samson's wife)
-Emma A (1878-1959) m.1896 Henry Alfred Hungerford (1874-1926)
-Samson (shown as "Samuel" in some records) (1882-1970) m.1905 Martha Ida Paeth (1882-1944) (sister to Marie Paeth, Herman's wife)

On Nov. 1, 1893 in Berlin, Green Lake, Wisconsin, Bertha married Ernest A. Gehrke. They changed their last name from Gehrke to Yerkie at some point. The 1900 Census uses Yerkie, but for the 1910 Census they have gone back to Gehrke. It seems to have changed for good to Yerkie by 1920.

Bertha and Ernest had at least 10 children, possibly more. Known children include:
-Amiel Robert (1894-1967) m. Edith M Shulmier (1898-1973)
-Clara M (1897-1994) m. 1920 James M Smith (ca1896-unk). They divorced before 1930
-John (Johnnes) William (1899-1979) m. Margaret L. Humphrey (1907-1998)
-Herman Robert (1901-1988) m.(1st) 1928 Viola Naomi Stevens (1910-1976); m.(2nd) after 1976 Yetta Mae Robertson Yerkie (1914-1993)
-Sampson E (1903-1995) m. 1927 Ella Mary Reardon (or possibly Peardon) (ca1908-unk)
-Florence E (ca1905-ca1938)
-Bernhardt Webster (1909-1976) m. 1930 Yetta Mae Robertson (1914-1993)
-Olga Bertha (1911-1999) m. John Emory Jones (1910-1987)
-Leona E (1913-2009) m. R Roland Blackson (1910-1991)
-Grace Irene (1916-2007) m.(possibly 1st) (unknown) Patch; m.(1st or possibly 2nd) William A. Marsey (1914-1944); m.(2nd or possibly 3rd) Thomas Charles Balla (1931-1977) (See discussion below regarding Grace's appearance in the 1940 census)

Bertha first lived in Warren, Waushara, Wisconsin, appearing in the 1880 U.S. Census there with her parents and siblings Wilhelm, Augustus, Hulda, Julius, Herman, and Emma. By the time of the 1900 U.S. Census, Bertha was married to Ernest and living in Willow City, Bottineau, North Dakota with their children Amiel (shown there as Emil), Clara, and John. By 1905 Bertha has moved back to Warren, Waushara, Wisconsin, appearing in the 1905 Wisconsin state census with her husband and children Amiel, Clara, John/Johnnes, Herman, and "Stephen" (since I have no other record of a son named Stephen, I think this may actually be referring to Sampson). In the 1910 U.S. Census, Bertha and Ernest are living in Aurora, Waushara, Wisconsin with their children Amiel, Clara, John/Johnnes, Herman, Sampson, Florence, and Bernhardt. By 1920 the family has moved again, appearing in the 1920 U.S. Census in Amber, Mason, Michigan. Bertha and Ernest are living there with their children Clara, John, Herman, Sampson, Florence, Bernhardt (shown there as Bernard), Olga, Leona, and Grace. By 1930 the family has suffered the loss of Ernest (who died in 1927) and has moved again, this time to Parsons, Wicomico, Maryland. Bertha appears there in the 1930 U.S. Census living with her children Clara, John, Leona, and Grace. Clara is divorced by this time and also included in the household is Myrtle Smith, Clara's daughter. Bertha appears in the 1940 U.S. Census still living in Wicomico, Maryland with her daughters Clara and Grace. Clara's daughter Myrtle Smith is also still living with them. Grace is listed as widowed and brings her two children, Richard and Milton, into the household. Grace and Richard's last name is shown on the Census record as "Patch" and Milton's last name is shown as "Yerkie." Grace's obituary names her sons Richard and Milton Marsey. However, Grace's husband William A. Marsey did not die until 1944, so if Richard and Milton are William Marsey's children, why does Grace show up as widowed in 1940 and what is up with the different last names? Perhaps Grace had another husband with the name "Patch" before William A. Marsey and William adopted her two boys?

Ernest was a farmer and Bertha was a housewife and farmer.
