William Andrew Jackson Willbanks was born the fourth child of Stephen Garrett Willbanks and Angeline Lanier Willbanks. He married Rutha Priscilla Veatch on August 1, 1876. He was a farmer. They had 10 children: Oscar Zelotes, VERNER, Charles Alonzo, Bertha Cordelia, Flavil, DeForest, Mary, Edgar, Stephen, and an unnamed infant.

Both Rutha and William died of tuberculosis.
