W. C. Murphy, Rail Express Veteran, Dies
NORFOLK - William Charlie Murphy Sr, 71, of 6400 Granby St., veteran of 32 years with the Railway Express Agency at retirement in 1958, died Tuesday at 1 a.m. in a Norfolk hospital.
A native of Back Bay, he lived in this area all his life. He was the husband of Mrs. Sadie Flora Murphy and a son of David (sic) and Mrs. Emily Chappell Murphy.
He was a member of Epworth Methodist Church and its Wesleymen's Class; Naomi Lodge 87, AF&AM; and the Brotherhood of Railway and Steamship Clerks.
Besides his widow, surviving are four sons, William C. Murphy Jr. of Baltimore, Ervin T. Murphy Sr. of Norfolk, MSgt. Nathaniel Albert Murphy, USA, and Elmer C. Murphy of Norfolk; one sister, Mrs. Mae Whitehurst of Norfolk; three brothers, Fletcher R. Murphy of Woodbridge, Lonnie L. Murphy of Back Bay and Garland Murphy of Baltimore; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home Thursday at 3 p.m. with burial in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
