MRS. KELLOGG DEAD
EARLY RESIDENT OF OSHKOSH
Mrs. Louisa Kellogg, the Mother of Arthur Kellogg, Passes Away at Aged Eight-Six – Came to Oshkosh in 1855.
One by one the early residents of Oshkosh are dropping away. This morning at about eight o'clock, in the death of Mrs. Louisa Kellogg, another name was added to the list of pioneers that have died within the past few months. Mrs. Kellogg has been ailing for over a year, the illness originating in an attack of influenza, which with advancing years and a slight trouble of the heart gradually weakened her physical condition until death was inevitable. The maiden name of Mrs. Kellogg was Louisa Breed. She was born in Herkimer county, New York, June 15, 1805. In 1826, in Adams, Jefferson county, N. Y., she was united in marriage to Lewis Kellogg, and in 1855 the couple removed to Wisconsin, settling in Oshkosh during the city's infancy. The old Kellogg house was on Algoma street, where the owner lived for many years. Subsequently the family removed to Wrightstown, and after the death of Mr. Kellogg in 1880, Mrs. Kellogg went to Fort Howard, then to Green Bay and about three years ago returned to this city, where she has since resided.
Deceased was a lady of many estimable qualities. She was an earnest Christian and a life-long member of the Presbyterian church. She leaves at death three sons, George C. Kellogg, of Menasha: Spencer Kellogg, of Omro, and Arthur Kellogg, of this city. The named reached Oshkosh this morning. The funeral will be held from the house Monday morning at ten o'clock, the Rev. J. S. Lean officiating.
