MELBA D. GREGORY Alford
Norwalk, Ohio - MELBA D. GREGORY Alford, June 12, 1944 - April 6, 2010 Proud to have been a lifelong resident of Norwalk, Melba knocked on heaven's door this day. She was quick to recognize God's hand in the blessings of her life, she knew Jesus as her Savior.

Melba was the fourth of nine children born to the late John and Ruth Gregory, where life on South Norwalk Road was spent tending the family garden, wandering the fields with younger sisters and brothers in tow, making dandelion necklaces, sledding down the hill behind the barn on a pushed-down baby buggy, laying on her back making animals out of clouds.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Evelyn Barnes, and brother, Mic Gregory. Surviving are Sonya Vondrak, Norwalk; Huntz (Mary) Gregory, Norwalk; Rita (Larry) Mercer, Montpelier; Anna (Del) Bristol, Norwalk; Gregg Gregory, Sedona, Arizona; and Jeanine Gentry, Norwalk. Melba's greatest job was found in her three children: Ann- Marie Kerr, Bellevue, John Brandt (Johnnie my Boy!) and Jody Nickoli, Norwalk, and Scott Brant, Norwalk. Her life was further enriched with the arrival of her grandchildren: Madison Brant, Corey Henning and Katelyn Henning, Aledia Brant and baby Lenah Brant. Love for the generations continued with the addition of great grandchildren: Corey's son, Leelan, who would hug his great-grandmother and sawy, "I wush my GG", and katelyn's daughter, Sevannah Hartley. Husbands Gerry Brant and James Alford preceded her in death. Melba was a special aunt to Lynn Chapin, Brian and Eric Maestas; as well as a caring niece to Catherine Gregory and Eugene and Elsie Gamble. Step-children, Doug (Crystal) Alford and the late Sherrie Smilie and families were welcome additions to her life.

Melba had a ready wit and brought gales of laughter with her spot-on one-liners. She loved to speak "pig-latin" and laughed when looks of consternation passed over someone's face. If there are garage sales in heaven--- that is where you will find Melba.

Friends may call on Saturday, April 10, 2010 from 11:00 A.M. until the time of service at 1:00 P.M. in Walker Funeral Home, 98 West Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio. Rev. Mike Boyes, Pastor of the Bellevue Alliance Church will officiate. Inurnment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Norwalk, Ohio. A celebration of Melba's life will follow the service at Shelter House #1 at the Norwalk Reservoir.
