Sampson Lee Lewis, Jr. was born August 1, 1935 in Clarksville, Texas to Sampson and Lorean Lewis. He was the sixth of 13 children born to this union. He was preceded in death by both parents and two brother, M.C. and Billy Joe; two sisters, Erma Jean and Pearline Akison.
Sampson was united in marriage to Birda Mae Edwards in April 1956. They later moved from Clarksville, Texas to Kansas City, Missouri. To this union four children were born.
Sampson accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior of his life at an early age and united with Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Clarksville, Texas.
Sampson departed this life Monday evening, October 23, 2000. He leaves to mourn his passing and beloved memories: his wife of 44 years, Mrs. Birda Mae Lewis; three daughters, Verna Jean Evans, Judy Kay Rowles, Tammy Ann Cook, all of Kansas City, Missouri;; one son, Sampson Lewis III of Kansas City, Missouri; one stepdaughter, Neolia Edwards of Clarksville, Texas; his siblings: Theodist Lewis, David Lee Lewis, Bernice Bryles, Dianna Harris, Cleo Janet Verner, Dorothy Morgan, Clara Sue Coleman, Clementine Hayes, Christine Guyton, and Lorene Wilson; eight grandchildren: Kiva DeShawn Lewis, Taneshia Moniquee Cook, Tiffany Marire Cook, Kaleb Benjamin Rowles, Travis Joseph Cook, Monjaray N. Lewis, Chandreletrian L. Lewis, Derrick Lewis, all of Kansas City, Missouri; two step-grandchildren: Stephen and Jeffery Edwards of Dallas, Texas; three great-grandchildren: Sha'Niece Lanae Lewis, Danisha Lashae Westerbrook and Alliyah Lewis of Kansas City, MO; five step-grandchildren of Dallas, Texas; three sons-in-law: Charlie Evens, Jr., Leonard Rowles, and Travis Cook of Kansas City, Missouri; and a host of other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by David R. Morris, who was a close and loved family friend.
Sampson was loved by many and will be missed by all of his family and friends. He was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. His memory will never be forgotten.
