George H. Tilden Fails To Survive
Bond Dealer Succumbs to Complications Following Operation Ten Days Ago
George H. Tilden, President of George H. Tilden & Company, bond dealers and the Tilden Safe Deposit Company, died early yesterday at the Seattle General Hospital. Death resulted from complications which followed a minor operation he underwent ten days ago. While his condition became serious last Wednesday hopes had been held for his recovery.

Tilden was born at Ames, Iowa, in 1876. He graduated in law from the University of Wisconsin and came to Seattle in 1904. Shortly after his arrival he was employed by the Union National Bank, where he remained for two years and then went into the bond business. His firm grew to be one of the most important firms of its sort in the Northwest. He built the safe deposit vaults which bear his name in the Hoge Building.

In addition to his business prominence, Tilden was one of the leading golfers in Seattle and in 1915 won the club championship of the Seattle Golf Club, of which he was a member for a number of years. He also belonged to the Rainier Club and the Beta Theta Pi Fraternity.

Tilden is survived by his widow, Mrs. Freda A. Tilden, 2202 Federal Avenue and his mother and two brothers, all of whom live at Ames.

The mother and one brother, Louis Tilden, reached Seattle last night, having started as soon as they learned of the gravity of Tilden's condition. The other brother, Galen Tilden, is expected in the city Thursday and if he does arrive then, the funeral will probably be held that afternoon.

The body is at the Bonney-Watson Company's establishment.
