HEINRICH HAEFKE (d. 1929)

ANOTHER OF OLD PIONEERS OF CO. PASSES
Death claimed the life of one of the county’s oldest pioneers late yesterday afternoon when Henry Haefke, Sr., 84, passed away at the home of his son, Henry Jr., at 1012 Marshall street, with whom he has been making his home for the past eleven years, death being due to dropsy and infirmities of old age.

The deceased was born Dec. 6, 1844 in Germany and came to this country at the age of 28 with his wife and one child. The family settled in Michigan and later located at Newton where they remained for two years, locating later on a farm at Manitowoc Rapids where they made their home until eleven years ago when Mr. and Mrs. Haefke moved to this city to make their home with their son Henry. March 19, 1870, Mr. Haefke was married to Sophia Cords who preceded him in death three years ago. Five children were born to the couple, two of whom are living, they being Mrs. Anna Kieselhorst and Henry Haefke, Jr., both of this city. Three
grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Monday afternoon at one thirty o’clock from the home and at two o’clock from the German Lutheran church, with Rev. Koeninger officiating. Burial will be at the Newtonburg cemetery.
