Marie Mage HOLZER arrived at New York aboard the "Confederation" from Le Havre, France, with her parents and other family members on 21 Nov 1854 aged 19 [1835], born in Switzerland. Parents: Joseph Holzer age 59 [1795] & Marie Eva age 57 [1797].

The 1880 census gives Magdalene's place of birth as Switzerland. Her death record gives it as Cleveland. Daughter (Mary)'s 1920 census entry gives place of birth for her mother as Holland and her language as Dutch. Mary was seventeen when her mother died. Reportedly, she remembered a sampler from her mother embroidered with the word "HOLLAND". Probably it was "HOLZER".

Magdalene was a Catholic. St. Michael (formerly St. Lawrence) served Catholics in the Independence area. No records exist in the baptism, marriages and interment Records of St. Michael's. According to the parish secretary the original St. Lawrence Church burned down completely along with any records they had. The Catholic branch of the HOLZER family derived from Canton Valais.
