Ben graduated from Byron High School in 1994, and during his high school years, was a page in the House of Representatives, Washington, D.C. In 1998, he graduated from Marquette University in Milwaukee and while there, was a TV entertainment director. He had been awarded a National Journalism Video Award for making a video which Marquette used for recruitment of new students. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, enjoyed outdoor activities and was an advocate for wildlife conservation efforts.
According to Rochester police, Kanton Joe Bonser, was driving south on Broadway when he lost control and the passenger side of the vehicle struck a pole. Ben, who was in the passenger seat, died at the scene.
He is survived by his parents and one brother.
