Ralph Kells was a son of Andrew Kells and Mary Marshall Kells. He was born May 16, 1813 in Pennsylvania. He was the middle child of three children, having an older brother Robert Marshall Kells and a younger sister Mariah Jane Kells Bay. By 1830, his family lived in Spencer Twp, Guernsey Co, OH, where he married Ann Jane McCracken 4 Nov 1841. They were the parents of nine children - James Andrew Kells, Mary Lucretia Kells Shriver Shacklett, Maria Ethalinda Kells Shipley, Clara Isabelle Kells Weathers, Julia Ann Kells Teener, William Alonzo Kells, Alcinda Jane Kells Shacklett and Robert Fulton Kells, all born in Cumberland, Guernsey Co., OH. By 1870, the family lived in Elkfork Twp, Pettis Co., MO where Ralph died in 1874. About 10 years after his death, his widow and part of his family moved to Garden City, KS.
