Enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served with the 14th Special Seabee Battalion in the South Pacific during World War II. Ratings: AS; S2c; MM/2c BM/2c; BM/1c. Assigned to the Shore Patrol. He was stationed at the Red Hill Seabee encampment [Pearl Harbor] and on a non-propelled [NPL] barge, affectionately called the "Sea Hag" that had to be towed from island to island; Tarawa, Kwajelin, Eniwetok, Funafuti. He was in the last group of 14th Special to be sent home.
