My paternal great grandmother. Ellen's parents had six children, but her mother died three days after giving birth to the last. The children were farmed out to neighbors/friends. Ellen was "adopted" by the Clark family in Ohio, when she was about 5. She sometimes used the name Clark. The Clarks brought her "out west".
