Abigail Burt was born at Norwalk after her parents were repatriated from captivity in Montreal, Quebec. She moved to Ridgefield with her family; her father Benjamin was the first town blacksmith. She met and married James Wallace, 2nd at Ridgefield 12FEB1735. In North Salem, NY separated from Ridgefield in 1731, she guided her large family through the French and Indian War where Captain James Wallace, CT Militia, served at the Siege of Louisburg, Quebec. Then she held the family together during the American Revolutionary War with ALL of her surviving sons and husband serving. Daughters included Abigail, Mary, Sarah, Lucy, and Deborah. Sons included James 3rd, Abijah, Thomas, Uriah, and Jacob (died young). Her stone is broken and the replacement, added by her descendant Thomas Wallace of Georgia to honor her, reads the same: "Abigail Wallace, widow of Capt. James who departed this life July 12, 1797 in the 85th year of her age".
