George Burkhalter, entered rest April 3, 2010 at the age of 64. He was born in Odessa, Texas on February 21, 1946 to Lennis O'Neal and Gloria Faye Burkhalter. George honorably served in the U.S. Marine Corps from January 6, 1966 to February 2, 1967. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and received a National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 1 Star, Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device and a Rifle Marksmanship Badge. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy and is survived by their two daughters, Michelle Tedder and Lisa Burkhalter; son-in-law, Jayme Tedder; grandchildren, Micaela and Jake Tedder; siblings: Michael Burkhalter, Linda Ellerbe, and Daniel Burkhalter; several nieces, nephews and other relatives. The family will receive friends at 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at Funeraria Del Angel Roy Akers. A Funeral Service will be held at 8:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 7, 2010 also at Funeraria Del Angel Roy Akers. Interment will follow in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Audie L. Murphy Memorial Veterans Hospital, 7400 Merton Minter St, (78229). Please visit www.rakersfuneralhome.com for online tributes.

Survivors include their two daughters, Michelle Tedder and Lisa Burkhalter; son-in-law, Jayme Tedder; grandchildren, Micaela and Jake Tedder; siblings, Michael Burkhalter, Linda Ellerbe, and Daniel Burkhalter; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

The family will receive friends at 7 to 9 p.m., Tuesday, April 6, 2010, at Funeraria Del Angel Roy Akers. A funeral service will be held at 8:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 7, 2010, also at Funeraria Del Angel Roy Akers. Interment will follow in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. A "casual dress" memorial service also will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 7, 2010, in Room 215 of the Coastal Bend College-Alice campus for friends and former students of George Burkhalter.
