VINTON - Ernest “Ernie” Hanover, age 82, died Tuesday, December 2, 2003 at the Vinton Lutheran Home following a brief illness. Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 A.M., Friday, December 19, 2003 at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Gates officiating. Private Committal Services will be held at Evergreen Cemetery. Friends may register at service time. Ernie was born August 13, 1921 at Vinton to Myron and Lois (Donels) Hanover. He graduated from Vinton’s Lincoln High School in 1939 and attended college for one year. Prior to his retirement, Ernie was the manager of Farmers Grain & Elevator in Vinton. On October 17, 1964 he married Virginia Tiller at Las Cruces, NM. He was a member of the Assembly Of God Church and in his leisure enjoyed woodworking and having coffee with his friends. He is survived by his wife, Virginia, a resident of the Vinton Lutheran home; two daughters, Nancy Campbell of Ames, and Mary Kramer of Vinton; two sons, Jeffrey Hanover of Cedar Rapids, and Randy Smith of Vinton; two step-daughters, Regina Wallace of Madrid, MO, and Jere Smith of St. Ansgar; six grandchildren, Gregory Campbell of Ellsworth, Bradley Hanover and Rachel Kramer, both of Vinton, Amy Hanover and Jessica Spargrove, both of Cedar Rapids, and Luke Wallace of Madrid, MO; five great grandchildren; and his brother, Kenneth Hanover of Mason City, IL. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Doris Hanover; and his son, Charles Hanover.
