Dewitt Talmadge Yates, Jr., 73, of Burgaw, North Carolina, died at his home on Friday, June 6, 1997. He was an attorney and formerly of Washington, D.C.
DeWitt Yates served as a pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WW II.
He attended the University of Tennessee and later graduated from the American University's George Washington College of Law in Washington, D.C.
He was a national and international lawyer, businessman, develope and entrepreneur.
He was a member of the Burgaw Presbyterian Church, the American Legion Post 165 in Burgaw, the District of Columbia Bar Association and Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity.
He is survived by his wife Ruth Garst Yates, son Robert Yates of Ft. Walton Beach, Florida, daughter, Elizabeth Yates of Raleigh, NC. He was predeceased by his parents, DeWitt T. Yates, Sr. and wife Margaret Durham Yates.
The family will receive friends from 7:30 until 8:30 PM today, Saturday, June 7, 1997, at Harrell's Funeral Home in Burgaw.
Graveside funeral services at the Burgaw Cemetery, Sunday, June 8, 1997, at 2:oo PM. The Rev, Lewis Sanderford will officiate and interment will follow.
