George Arthur Lewellen, A.B. '85, A.M. '86, Baldwyn, Miss. Born May 31, '62. Received preparatory training in public school in Miss.; attended Mars Hill College (Ala.) one year. After graduation served one year as minister of church, and as teacher in Henry Academy, New Castle, Ky. Then Principal of High School and minister of church at Mississippi for 2 years. Was then minister of church and President of West Tennessee Christian College, Henderson, Tennessee for 4 years. Next he was called to Collierville, Tennessee where he is now engaged as minister of Christian Church and President of Bellevue Male College. Has also served churches at Guntown and Baldwyn, Miss. and Lebanon, Ky.-- From the Kentucky University Alumni Directory for the years 1861 to 1896 compiled by George Winfield Kemper.

Professor G. A. Lewellen, professor of Bible history at the Texas Christian University, Ft. Worth, died at his home on Jan. 4. Prof. Lewellen was born in Mississippi in 1863. He graduated from Transylvania College of Kentucky in 1885, receiving his A. B. Degree. In 1889 he was elected president of the West Tennessee Christian College, serving in that capacity until 1893. From 1893 until 1903 he occupied the president's chair of Bellevue College of Tennessee, and from 1903 to 1909 he was president of Texas Christian University. Gravesite Details

According to his grandson, the daughter of G. A. Lewellen changed the family name to Llewellyn and updated the grave markers to reflect the change.
