David F Short was born 3-28-1903 in Parishville, St Lawrence Co. New York the 1st child of Frederick M. & Lola (Brown) Short.
David married Marjorie Rogers b: 2-24-1909 in Bakersfield, Vermont the dau of Anna Garrett & Harry Rogers. David, like his brother Howard, also worked for the Whitney Reality Company in Hamilton Co NY. He initially was in charge of all timber resources on the 97,000 acre park and also acted as the personal hunting and fishing guide for the owner, Mr. Cornelius Vanderbilt Whitney . Being of almost the same age, they developed a close life long relationship that lasted until Mr Whitney's death in 1992.
When the park was closed during WW II, David worked at the Remington Arms Works in Illion, NY. He returned to the Whitney Company after the war and was soon promoted to Superintendent of the entire park, a position he held until his retirement in 1985.
He was very active in the Kalura Shrine, holding a state position at one time, and was presented the honorary title of "Kentucky Colonel" by the governor of Kentucky. David died in 1997 and is buried in Long Lake, NY.
