In 1883, on May 18th, he was confirmed in St. John's church near Loganville. On September 23, 1896, he was united in marriage to Regina Schacke, and was privileged to live in this union for 43 years. Ten children were born to this union.
Mr. and Mrs. Harms and family were members of the Lutheran Zion Church in Westfield for about 25 years. Mr. Harms serving that congregation in the official capacity as treasurer.
About 17 years ago the family joined St. John's church in Ableman. For the past six years, Mr. Harms held the office of president of the congregation of the church. For quite some time he had been afflicted with an heart ailment, which became more serious and ended fatally on Friday morning, Oct. 27, 1939, when he was very suddenly taken by death.
Three children preceded him in death, two sons and one daughter, namely: Ernest and Henry and Frieda, Mrs. George Klitzke.
The surviving mourners are his wife, Mrs. Regina Harms, Emma, Mrs. Frank Fulton of DeForest, Wis.; Agnes, Mrs. Walter Klitzke, Ableman, Wis.; Edna, Mrs. Wesley Gross, Hillsboro, Wis.; Martha Harms, Glen Ellyn, Ill,; Amanda, Mrs. Harry Vertein, Ableman, Wis.; Alma Pafford, at home; and Martin Harms, at home; fifteen grandchildren and a large circle of other relatives, neighbors and friends.
He attained the age of 70 years, five months and one day.
Funeral services were held at St. John's church at Ableman on Monday afternoon, Oct. 30, 1939. Rev. Phillip Lehman officiating. He was laid to rest in Ableman cemetery.
