PHOENIX – A father was killed while riding with his teenage son who was learning how to drive.
Police have identified the victim as 42-year-old Eliseo Viramontes. Phoenix detectives have determined the 15-year-old at the wheel driving a BMW sedan failed to yield when making a left turn too soon at the corner of Greenway and 32nd Street and was struck by a pick-up truck pulling an empty horse trailer. Three others were sent to the hospital, police said. A beer delivery truck was also involved in the accident. Paramedics were unable to save Viramontes and he died soon after at the hospital.
Neighbor Michael Lawrence said, "He was one of those guys where work was work, and he would come home and enjoy his time with the family. He was just a great neighbor. It's a shock. I'm going to miss him."
