He served with Co. C, 1st Md Potomac Home Brigade Cav. He enlisted September 3, 1861, and was captured near New Market, Virginia, on May 13, 1864.

He was born c. 1843 in Frederick County, Maryland, the son of John & Catharine Crouse but in 1860 lived in Freedom Township, Adams County, PA. He was a laborer by occupation and stood 5' 11" tall and had light hair and blue eyes.

Wife = Margaret Brust (from Frederick, Md), to whom he was married 22 March 1864. No children. He was from Adams County, Pa.
