J.P. Alexander, pioneer Olney merchant, owner of Alexander's Ladies' Ready-to-Wear.

Services were held at the First Baptist Church.

J.P. Alexander married Susan Jackson in 1909 at Alvord, Texas. The couple moved to Olney in 1909 and established a dry goods store and had been a merchant in Olney since.

A leader in civic and church affairs until his later years, Alexander served on the Olney School Board for 25 years and was a charter member of the Olney Rotary Club, Downtown Men's Bible Class, which he served as a benevolence committee member until his death.

J.P. Alexander purchased the Dr. Pepper bottling company from E.C. Hallman in 1955.

He owned/operated the Black and White Grocery in Olney before moving to Clovis, New Mexico in 1939. He purchased the Dr. Pepper bottling company at Clovis, New Mexico until 1955 when he sold the business.

Survived by his wife.; one granddaughter - Susan Tyler; one son-in-law - Pete Tyler; three brothers - Bill, Milton and Claude Alexander; four sisters - Mrs. Winnie Sears, Mrs. Lizzy Beall, Mrs. Goldie Perrin, and Mrs. Ruby Livey.
