Right Handy Godwin served in Co. A, 14th MS Regt., CSA during the Civil War. He mustered in 8 Jun. 1861 and served until Aug. 1864. He applied for a Civil War pension at age 63 and was approved on 24 Nov. 1899. In his application he describes his health as "not good, feeble, also wound in left shoulder, rendering left arm useless, also lung." The wound of his left shoulder was caused "at the battle of Atlanta, GA" and "lung trouble was the result of measles contracted during his services in the confederate army." An affidavit of a physician reports that "upper two thirds of humerous in his left arm was lost in war and old age."
What's curious to me is the interrogation of Polk Godwin as a witness to the service of R. H. Godwin. One of the questions is "How long have you known the said R. H. Godwin?" Polk's response was "I knew him first in Georgia in about the year 1850." Polk is R. H.'s brother and Polk was born in 1845! Why didn't he say he knew R. H. because he was his brother, or that he had known him since 1845 when he was born?
After R. H. Godwin's death his widow applied for and received a widow's pension which was approved on 15 Oct. 1911.
The names of R. H.'s parents and siblings comes from a copy of the family Bible records.

I have not been able to find R. H. in the 1850 census, he would have been about 14 years of age.
