Gladys Heusser Pointer, of Sunset home, formerly of Springfield, died at 7:55 a.m. Saturday (Dec. 23, 2000) in the home. Born in Emden, Mo., Mrs. Pointer was a daughter of Edwin C. and Elizabeth M. Schneider Spence. She married Edward W. Heusser on June 28, 1928, in Quincy. He preceded her in death in 1971. She later married Hal L. Pointer on Aug. 15, 1979, in Akron, Ohio. He preceded her in death in 1991. A resident of Springfield most of her life, Mrs. Pointer was a member of the First Christian Church in Springfield, served as president of the Christian Women's Fellowship in 1994-95, was a life member of the Flower City O.E.S Chapter 152 where she served as Past Worthy Matron in 1945, was a member of Jeptha Shrine 75 of Springfield, and was Past Queen of ABEBA Temple of the Daugthers of the Nile of Springfield in 1973. She also helped organize the Quincy Club Daughters of the Nile of ABEBA Temple in 1977 and served as Ambassador for many years. Mrs. Pointer was employed by Sears-Roebuck for many years, retiring in 1975 as audit supervisor. After her retirement. she helped to organize the Sears 2230 Club for retirees. Surviving are serveral nieces and nephews; several great-nieces and great-nephews; a cousin; and two sisters-in-law. Mrs. Pointer was preceded in death by her parents, and her husbands. Services were conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday Dec. 27th, 2000 in Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by the Rev. Rick Irwin. Burial was in Greenmount Cemetery in Quincy. Visitation was from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday Dec. 26th and Wednesday morning until the time of services in the funeral home. The Daughters of the Nile conducted services at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
