Laura Convers was born in Littleton, Buchanan County, Iowa April 15, 1870 to Charles William Convers, a minister, and his second wife, Catherine Loutzenhiser, whom he married in 1869. Over time her maiden name, Convers, evolved to "Converse" in records, and Laura used that spelling to name her son, Ralph. Laura married Joseph Grant Obenchain on September 3, 1890 in Iowa. They had five children born in Iowa -- Charles H., Mary L. , Cora Elizabeth, Ralph Converse, and Lola Lovicia. Both Charles and Mary died in infancy and were buried in Iowa.

Laura and Joseph moved from Iowa to Mercer County, Pennsylvania between 1900 and 1910, where they remained. When they became old, they moved into the home of their daughter, Elizabeth Whittaker, in Albion, Erie. Pennsylvania. Joseph died there in 1939 and shortly afterward Laura also died. Tragically, their daughter herself had a breakdown and died in 1939 shortly after her parents did. All are buried in Albion Cemetery.
