One of the early business leaders in Cadiz and Trigg County,
he co-founded the Trigg County Farmers Bank in 1890, and served as its president from 1900 to 1925. In 1900 he founded the Cadiz Railroad which had the distinction of being the shortest railroad in America at ten miles.
He operated iron furnaces, farmed and, along with his father, owned and operated one of the largest tobacco warehouses in western Kentucky. He traveled to New York to sell tobacco in order to get a better price.
1850 census listed as "dealer in tobacco".
From Cadiz Record Obituary Dec.1925 or Jan. 1926: He was born about 5 mi. north of Cadiz ...married in Cadiz...died of heart attack at home at 5:25 a.m.

From Perrin's 1884 "History of Trigg Co.": W. Gunn in tobacco business, built present stemmery now owned and operated by Mr. White (? J.F. or W.C.)...In 1860 Abithal Wallace built a residence in Cadiz now occupied by W. C. White."
