William C. Adams, the eldest child of Anna and Carlton Adams, was born October 20, 1891, at Adamsville, Ohio. He departed this life on December 29, 1969, at St. Joseph hospital in Concordia, Kansas, at the age of 78 years, 3 months, and 9 days.

He arrived in Kansas from Ohio on his 21st birthday and worked as a farmhand for his uncle, Aaron Gaumer. He was married to Minnie May Atchison of Kirwin on September 14, 1914. To this union two sons were born. Wayne Victor died in infancy.

The family had lived for some 18 years on a farm in the area now enclosed by the Kirwin Dam. They lived in Phillipsburg for a short time and then moved to Kirwin June 15, 1954.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Minnie, on October 30, 1959, and one brother, Clyde.

He found new happiness when he married Miss Gertrude Lance on September 3, 1964. They made their home in Kirwin until the time of his death.

He was a devoted husband and father, a good neighbor and a warm friend to many people. He found great pleasure in having his grandchildren about him, and they were devoted to him.

His passing brings sadness not only to his loved ones but a host of neighbors and friends as well.

Surviving relatives are his wife, Gertrude of the home; his son DeVaun C. and his wife Estella of Goodland; two grandsons, Ronnie of the home and David, a student at Fort Hays State; one brother-in-law, Lloyd Atchison of Denver, Colorado; a cousin, Alta Stuckman of Kirwin, and numerous nephews and nieces of Ohio.

Memorial services were held Friday, January 2, in the Community Methodist church, Kirwin, with the Rev. Lynn Evans officiating.

Music was furnished by Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Fischli.

Casket bearers were Al Stackhouse, Oral Power, Willard Johnson, Wayne Anderson, Charles McDowell, and Richard McQueen.

Interment was in the Kirwin Cemetery, Kirwin, Kansas.
