Susan Wharton was born in VA as were her Mother (Eliza Smith) & father John ( Fauquier County) He & his family came to Trigg County KY in 1817 (the same year Susan was born) & bought 700 acres; in 1854 he built a frame house; his son John Smith W.later ran his farm & was living there in 1884. Two of his children, Bettie & Walter Scott (Cousin Bettie was the only person I knew who called him Walter) lived in the house until they died & later it was torn down
Cause of Death: She died in childbirth with Susan who lived another six months.
Tombstone: "I would not live always -No, welcome the tomb-Since Jesus has I am there-I dread not its gloom- There sweet be my rest-Till he bid me rise-to hail him in triumph-Descending the skies."
