James M Elliott was a local merchant (store on Main across from the courthouse) and was even mentioned in Peter's Civil War diary. His house still stands on the southwest corner of High and Mill. His business failed and he lived out his final years in Cincinnati. His wife, Julia, and children went on to live in Washington DC for several years.
